Resting, Relaxing, and Recouping

Hey everyone. Today was a very low-key day devoted to resting, relaxing, and recouping from May Session and graduation specifically (hence this entry's title). I was able to sleep in and spent a lot of the day in my apartment. I started to do some clean-up, but I wanted to wait until tomorrow before taking out trash and doing laundry. I'm glad that custodial came by today because good gravy there was so much trash last night/this morning. What made me particularly sad was that sacks of trash had filled up the paper recycle bin as well. Fortunately, when I walked through this evening, the trash had even been taken out of the other bins.

Each RC did have some closing responsibilities, and after I went to evening church and dinner, I closed up the main lounge and computer lab. Since the floors have to be vacuumed/cleaned/waxed, I don't have to worry about the nitty gritty, but like a lot of the stuff the students do, we want to give custodial the fewest number of hurdles to jump in order to clean the building. (I've been able to use this as a sympathetic response when students ask why they need to loft their bed to the highest setting. That way, the custodians don't have to do the limbo to vacuum under the beds and it beats "because I told you so" as a response.)

When I got dinner after church, I was half people-watching a group of four high school students (by my guess at least). Now, it's been a while since I was their age and the Academy definitely has a skewed slice of that age group, but after about 5 minutes, I was like "yeah, looking forward to hanging out with college friends in July". I can make things work for the time being, but in the long run, this town isn't what I feel is right for me. (This is something I've been thinking about since we've been in the RC hiring timeline, so this wasn't something I just stumbled upon while sitting in a fast food booth.)

The plan for the summer is take at least one (hopefully two) courses in the June session, which doesn't start until a week from tomorrow. Fortunately, that gives me time to get all my paperwork in order to get back into grad school. Here's hoping I don't get "I'm away from the campus until August" auto-response emails. I also plan to take this week to really clean and have a grand sense of order in this apartment. Oh, and I'm probably going to help a co-worker move some stuff closer to Kansas City tomorrow.

I'm also hoping to get back into healthy habits this summer, including schedule exercise and a regular sleep schedule. The last one is this weird thing where people go to bed at the same time everyday because their job doesn't keep them up until midnight or 3am different nights. I don't know if it's just a myth, but I guess I can give it a try.

Have a great start of the week and DFTBA.
