Classes, Cookies, and Conversations

I don't have huge updates in regards to classes. For Issues in Ed, I'm going with consolidation of school districts as my first topic to write on and I was able to find some nice articles in preliminary research. I will need to put some major time into that tomorrow though. Intro to Special Ed is okay. I got one of the two chapters scheduled for this week completed and have 10 of my 15 volunteer hours lined up for the service project. (I'm going to use VBS as my diversity hours with Issues in Ed since I can't guarantee that it would qualify for Intro to Special Ed.) I'm glad that I have chapter to read and be quizzed over in Intro to Special Ed, since everything else in both classes feel like big projects.

The holiday I celebrated today was Peanut Butter Cookie Day. I didn't have any peanut butter cookies specifically (and didn't think about going to the vending machine downstairs until just now), but I did have some Girl Scout shortbread cookies and a jar of peanut butter. I think that works.

It was also Jerky Day, and while I did have jerky in my apartment, it felt too late to eat it once I remembered the day.

Another of today's holidays is Loving Day. I just looked into the holiday and it actually seems sentimental. Basically, back in the 60's, an interracial couple got married and then banished from Virginia. They eventually had their case brought to the Supreme Court where laws banning interracial marriages were deemed unconstitutional (and today is the anniversary of that court date).

You learn something new everyday, right?

So, the highlight of today was talking to a fellow Nerdfighter today about a lot of things. It started out after I read a page she sent me with a re-telling of Star Wars Episode VI and it jumped between Star Wars, video game series, Facebook profile pictures, embarrassing moments from college (I divulged about the Awkward Dance and the IT Dating Game), and oddly enough, guns and hunting were included in the mix (it started from a profile picture, in my defense). By the time she left for dinner with her dad, we both realized that 5-1/2 hours had passed. Needless to say, it was an engulfing conversation.

Outside of that, I just stuck around the apartment and was part of another Nerdfighter hangout. I've definitely felt welcomed into the group, partly since I've had a handful of people from the group add me as friends now. It'll be nice to plunk away at the musical when I have some spare time (heh).

Alright I should wrap this up since I'm up quite late (again) anyway. Have a nice night and DFTBA
