Balancing the Silliness and Seriousness of Daily Holidays

So, like I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, I like to celebrate the random holidays of the day/week/month since it makes every day different from the next. I enjoy the concept so much that I think "You know, I could turn this into a daily vlog series by itself because I'm sure very few people know that January 16th is a holiday that is quite literally nothing, for example". I enjoy the concept, but I don't think I'm quite at the point of making daily vlogs though, especially considering that I haven't vlogged since I moved here in July. It's still a cool little idea.

One hiccup that comes to mind with this idea is what to do on the days with really important, but really well-known holidays? Is it better to be one of the thousands of people talking about Christmas on December 25th or would I incur the wrath of others if I focused on A'Phabet Day... Wait a minute, that's another way of saying "No 'L' Day", isn't it... Okay, not the best example, but let's pretend that Endangered Species Act Day is the 25th instead of the 28th and I would only talking about tigers and exotic birds rather than Jesus. Christmas is a pretty big example of this hiccup, but if I was starting on January 1st with this daily holiday vlog, my first hiccup concern would definitely be today - MLK Jr. Day.

I was on Tumblr earlier tonight and I think I found a post to point me in a good direction. The poster points out that the Tumblr staff have done fun little cutesy things for the more "meaningless" holidays like National Donut Day or Top Hat Day. On the other hand, nothing on Tumblr was changed to commemorate Dr. King or his life. In the time it's been on Tumblr (less than 24 hours for sure since I can't see a time zone), this post has amassed nearly 44,000 notes. On a different behemoth website, Google's home page featured an illustration of Dr. King "walking arm in arm with fellow activists in Selma, Alabama". Compared to Tumblr, Google has been much more consistent when it comes to recognizing pioneers in diverse fields as engineering, psychology, and dance. It looks like the Google Doodles feature quite a lot of holidays, focusing on many different countries and current events like elections.

I think that if I was making a daily holiday vlog, I would strongly consider making two videos on days like today. That way, MLK Day would get the respect it deserves, but I would also get to be random and talk about Popcorn Day. With that said, it's Popcorn Day! Personally, I'm feeling better after chipping away at my big to do list, but I always forget about implementing the holidays into what I do until it's a little too late. It's never to late to start, right?
