You know, I didn't think about it in this way before, but today was the only full day of my Spring Break that's in Minnesota (since I flew in yesterday afternoon and I fly out midday tomorrow) I mean, I knew my travel plans, but it definitely makes the time here seem even more brief. Compared to yesterday, today was pretty low-key. The hotel crowd slowly started to wake up this morning and I'm sure some people were greeted with hangovers, based on the partying last night. I rode to St Paul with a couple of friends to the place where I'm staying tonight. We chilled for a little bit until my sister & brother-in-law came and picked me up for lunch. After lunch, we went shopping as a later-but-not-belated birthday gift.
At the wedding yesterday, I noticed that all of my male college friends had a suit or sports coat. I'm sure this wasn't the first time I was in the minority but I did feel like I was sticking out. (I was glad that I went with a blue dress shirt since there were other gentlemen at the wedding who had the same colors, so I didn't feel like I stuck out *way* too much.) So partially based on the wedding and partially my desire to expand my professional wardrobe in general, I told my sister that I wanted a suit or sports coat. We shopped around a couple of places and found a nice black sports coat that I ended up getting as my birthday gift. I am definitely new to the world of sports coats, so I'm still skeptical to what my brother-in-law said about it going with a variety of shirt/slacks options including khakis. I do think I'll try the sports coat out "in the real world" very soon since I don't want to shove it in my carry-on baggage when I fly back to Missouri. Oh, and I also think I should carry a little card around with my dress clothes sizes because those numbers (dress shirt, jacket, slacks, etc.) seem to elude me since I shop for dress clothes on a very infrequent basis.
After spending some more time with my sister and brother-in-law shopping and talking, they dropped me off at my friends' apartment. There were four of us that spend the rest of the night watching basketball, playing some games, and just relaxing. One of my friends that lives here was one of the bridesmaids so she was glad to simply have a day to relax and be lazy. The guy that lives here is definitely a sports follower of our group and was keeping his brackets close at hand while watching the handful of games today. We had another friend join us for some games and general hanging out. So, overall, a pretty lazy day but still a good one.
I'm kind of torn about my blogging after writing that last passage. I realize that I use general terms like "a college friend" a lot rather than actual names. I don't really talk about crazy personal stuff here, but my initial instinct to avoid names was to keep secrecy. On the other hand, it's not like saying I hung out with Beth, Chris, and Kyle today will ruin their career someday. I also wonder if using actual names would make it odd for those of you who don't know these people already. I could easily listen a dozen names in my spring break entries already and if you didn't know who they were, it could just turn into white noise. Feel free to share any comments, but it was just something that came to mind.
Even though tomorrow is only really focused on flying to Indiana, I should still get some rest. Have a good one and happy Monday!
