PMCE- Post MusiCamp Exhaustion

Okay, I know that this is now my third blog and that all of these blogs have had MusiCamp in their title. Well, if you couldn't tell from the title (and fact that it's been two weeks since my last entry), I have returned from two weeks of MusiCamp to the supposedly "normal" world. I can definitely say that this has been my best year of band and choir camp with the university. Every year, at least one person asks me "which was better: band or choir camp?" Well, I can't exactly answer that question because those two camps are really really different, but when I compare years past with this year, this year wins by far. So, I'm going to give an attempted overview of the camps and then I really should head to bed before too long.

CHOIR CAMP: music included a different arrangement of Jubilate Deo, Two Irish Aries, Go Where I Send Thee (and I got the baritone solo-it rocked!), and Manly Men for Men's Chorus (which is pretty obvious once you've heard the piece). Besides that, I performed Music of the Night from Phantom of the Opera for the solo recital... and it was the best solo I've performed before. During the "Talent?" night, I was killed on stage four times (kill count- Chris E: 1 - Jake K: 3) and our bass section skit rocked it up as usual. I think I hung out with everyone at camp (35 or so) at least once during the week, and all the guys, especially the dormers (Joe, Chris, Tommy, Lars, and me) really got to be really good pals. Oh, and this includes staying up until 2:30 after deciding at 1:15 to stop playing cards and basically starting to beat up on each other. Dr. Logan also told me that next year, even though I'll be going into soph year at UM, I could come to camp and be a counselor/singer/assistant director or such stuff. Now, that sounds pretty sweet, huh?

BAND CAMP: I'm going to give everyone a few seconds to make all those "band camp jokes" that you are just dying to say, okay?

So, you done yet? Okay, I'm just going to hope that you are. Well, after going through a week of fantastic choir camp, I was apprehensive about band camp, but, boy, was I falsely worried. One thing that is so different from all the other years is the fact that the trumpet section actually acted like a section rather than individual people. Yes in years past, we've played parts as a section, but after the rehearsal finished, it felt like everyone went to their own group. This year we have had fantastic players and we can actually have conversations outside of the concert hall. In one conversation, it comes up that I have the music book to the Phantom of the Opera (you know, from last week), and then the next night, I'm performing a duet from PotO with another trumpet in the section (who not only is incredible on trumpet but who has an amazing voice too) which was sweet. Oh, and for the band's talent/skit night, I only died once (why? because shrimp is cheaper in death... I'm just going to stop there) although I was in three skits for that night as well. The music was really good (especially Express Land and Sanford and Son for jazz I) and also challenging, which doesn't hurt (okay it does, I'll admit it).

Well, I know I have enough stuff to write about... but the fact is that it's after 2 now and I really need to get sleep before I head with my sis next week to Michigan. Hope that people are actually reading this... enjoy your life until I see you again. :-)
