One Last Entry on the Grid

Time flies by so quickly as always. There's always a week of things to do with only three days time. At the same time, it only feels like three days have passed when it really has been a week.

Earlier this week, I took a little trip to the Cities. First of all, driving in downtown Minneapolis, with construction ripping up streets everywhere which are 95% one-way roads and rain and Twins crowds... yeah, I'm okay that I don't live or work there, but I did survive to tell the tale. I was able to run some errands and I spent the night at a friend's and it was really good to catch up with him. It would have been nice to plan more things with friends, but I was only in the Cities for less than 24 hours, and the house I stayed at had three friends of mine, and I only really got to hang out with one of those three. There's always time to visit the Cities again.

I went to a friend's wedding today. It was definitely a sign of the times that I was invited via Facebook. It was a friend from high school band that I didn't keep the best tabs with after graduation, but still, he was a good friend/bandmate before. It was a small ceremony held at the park, which I thought was well done. It was good to see old band friends, including a couple who have been together for 5 or 6 years now, who are now engaged (yeah, we're all quite happy for them). The reception was at the country club, which had a really nice buffet dinner. I ended up sitting with some other people who missed the reception, although there were some people we didn't see at all today (it's a shame, really). I would have stayed to dance, but the to do lists in my head told me I should come back.

As I said at the reception, it's no longer odd that people from my high school class are getting married simply because it feels like we're too young... it's just odd because it's people that I've known for 4, 7, 12 years. Even still, it is days like this that make me feel old, but young.

Tomorrow, I'm heading out for a week-long vacation. Of course, some of the vacation will involve moving stuff down to the Academy so I don't have to rent a U-Haul in a month (fingers crossed)... but at the same time, I'll be able to explore Kansas City, have some good food, and try to put a lot of these stresses behind me for a few days. I'm excited. With that said, I'm pulling myself off the Internet grid for a week.
